Nth Degree is an engineering concern based at Riversands Incubation Hub with entrepreneur Thabiso Pila in the driving seat. The business has been registered since 2014 and operating full-time since early 2020, which wasn’t a particularly good time to launch a business!
“Since Nth Degree supplies, repairs and commissions instrumentation and control equipment, we are classified as an essential business although I have to admit that the first few months last year were tough,” explained Pila.
The name of the company is derived from a mathematical expression, where to the nth means to ‘any required power’ (n standing for any number) and in this context, refers to everything being done to its utmost.
“That’s my vision for my company: to deliver first-rate products and services to my clients who are principally in the mining and food industries,” he said.
While the head office for Nth Degree is at Riversands, the company is also represented in Mokopane, Limpopo as a central point for the mines in that area.
Pila has deep experience in the field of instrumentation and control, having spent his early career at Wika Instruments and later at listed entity Aveng. For now, he relies on regular contract workers to do the repairs to control valves and other equipment, drawing on his extensive network to take advantage of their skills and experience.
It’s this entrepreneur’s vision to positively contribute to the communities in which his business operates as a way of giving back to society. “I’m committed to improving the lives of my fellow South Africans by empowering them with skills. It’s my intention to set up a workshop and train eager youngsters to repair valves and other equipment,” concluded Pila.
