Thanks to strong corporate partnerships, the Riversands I-Hub campus is now fully digitalised and most of the SMEs are taking advantage of the extremely low cost internet access that has been provided.
“Our vision is enable internet access to everyone on the campus, both entrepreneurs and their employees. Of course the need to social distance has also brought this requirement into sharp focus! Perhaps more importantly, the Hub has moved its support services and Growth & Learning material online and the fibre infrastructure will allow everyone to take advantage of the full suite of support services that the team offers. Entrepreneurs have been uniform in their praise for the new service and uptake has been swift,” explained Tafadzwa Madavo, CEO of Riversands I-Hub.
The fibre backbone was originally installed by MetroFibre Networx in 2018 with the idea of enabling young businesses. “Of course, when the work from home scenario emerged, it became even more essential for us all to have high-speed internet access for work, social, domestic and health purposes,” remarked Liza Kok, chief brand officer for MetroFibre Networx.
In a project named Hub Connect, full rollout of the services to each individual business unit started in earnest in November 2020 when MySky Networks came on board as a partner. The company provides the physical networking infrastructure as Managed Services to each unit, including:
The partnership between Riversands I-Hub and MySky Networks has proved to be a sweet deal for both organisations. MySky occupies a unit on the campus as their Head Office and base for its team of engineers. “Established in 2014, the company prides itself on being agile and dynamic with a keen focus on technical capabilities, as proven by its Platinum Partner Status with Aruba Networks and Advanced MSSP Partner Status with Fortinet. It has 12 employees, and the ability to provide IT Managed Services nationally with presence in both Johannesburg and Cape Town.” said Jamie Carruthers, chief sales and operations officer for MySky Networks.
As with everything at Riversands I-Hub, the mark of any initiative is measured by its impact on the lives of the on-campus cohort of entrepreneurs. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
