Mphela Raphesu is a man on a mission to grow his business – Innovative Knowledge Worx – into a giant corporation.
“Since I started the company in 2015, we’ve been paying school fees. That’s another way of saying we’ve learnt a lot in those five years!” commented Raphesu.
The most recent lessons will put into practice almost immediately because Innovative Knowledge Worx successfully completed a project to build 30 RDP houses in Tsolo, Eastern Cape on time and on budget despite encountering many obstacles during the contract. The company has subsequently been appointed to build a further 300 RDP homes, this time near Brits in North West.
“The location of the initial project was the first challenge but my attitude is always to find a solution and I immediately recruited five team leaders for the site to be my eyes and ears. Security was a further headache which we overcame by hiring security guards for the site. It was also quite a task to ensure that the workers received their wages. In rural Eastern Cape not many individuals have bank accounts! Each stage of the construction process provided additional lessons,” he said.
In spite of the difficulties, Raphesu is eager to get going on the Brits assignment.
“I’m keen to help improve people’s lives,” concluded Raphesu.
