The organisation’s founding CEO Jenny Retief steps down to pursue other business ventures. She remains involved in the organisation as a member of the board.
“True sustainability of any organisation requires putting succession at top of mind. We are fortunate to have some of Tafadwa’s calibre to step up to lead the organisation. He has a proven record of execution and has shaped the Hub’s direction and programmes for many years. I am confident that he will bring his own stamp to this leadership role, while also staying true to our mandate,” comments Retief.
“We are privileged to have been led by Jenny and grateful that she will continue to be involved and provide guidance as a board member. She is a tough act to follow, but we are encouraged by her confidence in us. In our first years of operating, we have asked the hard questions about who we are, who we serve and what we offer.
These are important foundations and necessary for our next level of growth. My work in the coming years will be to strengthen our position as a leading small business development platform,” comments Madavo.
Madavo has been the Chief Operating Officer at Riversands Incubation Hub since May 2017. Prior to this he held the positions of Head of SME Development and SME Development Manager at the incubator. Before to joining the organisation in January 2016, he was an entrepreneur in the agricultural sector and held a number of small business and community development roles.
He holds a Bachelor of Social in Economics and Community Resource Management and a Masters in Strategic Management.
Retief has been involved with Riversands since the conception and construction phases. “We started with only five businesses, and now we are home to over 160 businesses. The growth has kept us on a continual development curve. The vision was a high-quality business park for entrepreneurs integrated into a broader commercial development. I have devoted my time to ensuring that this vision came to life, and have enjoyed it immensely,” says Retief.
Riversands, which offers a campus with mini-factories and work spaces, has grown exponentially since 2015. Since opening its doors in September 2015, over R405,5M has been paid by these small businesses in remuneration to their staff, while 945 permanent and 2463 short-term jobs have been created. And since January 2017, Riversands has had an average of 94% occupancy rate.
Riversands Incubation Hub is a large-scale business incubator established in 2015 through a partnership between Century Property Developments and National Treasury’s the Jobs Fund. The Hub is currently home to over 160 small businesses, with many more entrepreneurs supported through business development programmes and support services.
The Hub is located at the centre of the Riversands Commercial Park. It provides a strong, enabling eco-system that fosters the development of high-potential enterprises.
A wide variety of industries is represented by the businesses at the Hub and industry clusters have emerged amongst the entrepreneurs – manufacturing, home décor, IT, engineering and professional services to mention a few.
