A Riversands entrepreneur, Seola Mashamaite from Montech is participating in the roll-out of the UN Industrial Development Fund (UNIDO) project to install calibration infrastructure to countries in the SADC region.
“As it stands, South Africa is the only country in the region with the technical infrastructure to ensure measurement traceability,” explained Mashamaite.
“When neighbouring countries require calibration certificates for exports to Europe for example, SA companies do the work. Montech has travelled as far afield as Rwanda to ensure equipment is measuring accurately,” she said.
The UNIDO project aims to boost capacity in the region in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. It consists of setting up national laboratories as well as training personnel in this highly technical field.
“South Africa is well respected in this field and the UNIDO project is providing an opportunity for the industry to share knowledge and skills.”
